How Long Does a Candle Actually Burn? A Real Burn-Time Breakdown

Our tin candles (like Vanilla Honey and Thinking of You, โ‚ฌ9.95 each) burn for approximately 35 hours. Our glass jar candles, like Princess Energy (โ‚ฌ11.95), run 30-35 hours. That's the number on the label โ€” here's what actually moves it up or down in real use.

What shortens burn time

Blowing a candle out after only 15-20 minutes stops the wax from fully melting to the edges (a "memory ring"), which means every burn after that only melts the smaller inner circle โ€” you lose hours of usable wax around the rim. Burning it somewhere drafty also burns the wick faster than the wax, wasting fuel.

What actually gets you the full burn time

Let it burn until the wax pool reaches the edge of the tin or jar on the first burn (usually 1-2 hours), and keep the wick trimmed to about 5mm before each relight โ€” a too-long wick burns hotter and faster than it needs to.

Piped candles are the exception

Our piped/sculptural candles (Watermelon Sugar Margarita, Mermaid Dreams) are shaped rather than poured in a straight-sided container, so burn time varies more by shape โ€” check the individual product page for specifics rather than assuming the tin/jar numbers above apply.
